Shawn Hurley

Pastor

Shawn served in ministry for over 20 years as a youth pastor, executive pastor and a preaching pastor. His roots in the South Bay go deep, with his family moving to Torrance generations ago to help establish the city. Shawn holds a bachelors degree from the University of California Santa, Barbara in Communications and Religious Studies, and also a Master of Divinity from Talbot School of Theology. He is passionate about helping people know and understand the Bible, and to see how God's timeless word can still change our lives today.

He loves the South Bay and isn't leaving. Shawn and his wife, Melinda, were high school sweethearts and have four kids who are growing up much faster than they are ready for. He would love to talk to you about the Bible. Or surfing. Or comic books. Especially comic books. Please, someone come talk to him about comics.

Garrick Hanger

Pastor

Garrick is passionate about people, a quality that has served him well in his years of ministry as a College, Young Adult, and Preaching Pastor. However, nowhere is this passion more evident than on Sunday, when Garrick can be found wandering the church in search of new friends. Garrick studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and holds a Master of Divinity from Talbot School of Theology.

He is the pastoral team’s spiritual compass, leaning and leading in the Spirit to see where God would have us go and what God would have us do. Garrick is blessed to be married to Dr. Jeannine Hanger, who teaches Bible at Biola University. They have three kids and one dog, who is as extroverted as Garrick is.

Michael Barker

Worship Pastor

Michael has served as a worship pastor throughout the South Bay and Orange County for the past fifteen years, partnering with Shawn and Garrick in numerous ministry contexts. Michael is more than just a musician—he carries a Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology.

We love that Michael can play both Hillsong and Wesley without letting the music become about him instead of God. Michael has over two hundred board games in his house; just let that sink in for a moment. His wife, Kaitlyn, is a licensed spiritual director and they have a growing family of three children who bring all of us so much joy!

Hunter Babcock

Pastor of Student Ministries

Hunter has served for the past nine years in student ministries, shepherding college, high school and junior high students through some of the most formative years of their lives. Hunter also hosts the Coastline Covenant Podcast (available wherever you get your podcasts). Hunter graduated from Biola University, earning a Master of Arts  in Theology from Talbot School of Theology.

Hunter’s brain works at the speed of the internet, which makes him an excellent youth pastor and cultural missionary. He is a man of unusual passions, ranging from cycling to the Grateful Dead, but Hunter's newest obsession is being a dad to his baby girl, Maeve.  His wife, Megan, is a marriage family therapist. They are one of those couples who everyone either knows or wants to know—and we can't believe how lucky we are to have them on the team.

Richelle Bergley

Director of Children's Ministries

Richelle has been ministering to children and families for over 12 years in numerous ministry contexts. She has a degree from Western Washington University in Human Services.

When we launched Coastline Kids, we hoped that one day we would be able to find someone “like” Richelle, as she was someone we worked with in the past. We never anticipated that the person who God would call to Coastline would “actually” be Richelle! A gifted visionary, an insightful ministry tactician, a thoughtful minister to children and families and a woman with a sensitivity to how the Spirit is moving, Richelle contributes broadly throughout all Coastline ministries. Fun fact, most graphics and social media content you see from us was created by Richelle.

Nikki Hernandez

Director of Ministry Programming

For over twenty years Nikki Hernandez has served in administrative and ministerial roles in churches. With extensive experience leading students, ministering to families, building and training volunteer leaders, caring for the needs of women and preaching, there is little that she hasn’t seen or done in ministry.

Nikki is in many ways,  the glue that keeps Coastline running smoothly.  As our Director of Ministry programming, she supports every ministry in a variety of ways, in addition to running our Women's ministry. She holds a degree from Biola University along with a Master of Arts in Theology from Talbot School of Theology, and  is the proud mother to her daughter Alicea (who just got married this past August)!
