UPDATE [August 19, 2026]:
Hello Church Family,
Coastline Covenant Church was granted a Conditional Use Permit by the City of Torrance to establish a church at the Madison Street property! Obtaining a CUP is almost always a challenge for churches because of concerns around parking, traffic and neighboring properties—and our process was no different. After nine months of waiting, working and praying, we’ve finally checked the last major box on Madison Street. We now expect to close escrow in the next two to four weeks. Get ready, Coastline: we’re about to have a permanent church home!
So what happens next?
The Coastline offices will move into the Madison Street property by the end of September. This will allow us to begin using the property immediately, while also eliminating the cost of our current office space on Knob Hill. We will also begin work on the architectural design and construction documents for the church. In a perfect world, those plans will be submitted to the City of Torrance for building permits around Halloween. Once the first draft of the plans is ready, we’ll host another congregational meeting to share them with you. In September, we’ll launch a new sermon series through the book of Nehemiah called The Burden to Build, which will help prepare our hearts for the work ahead. And in January, we’ll launch our capital campaign to help financially secure Madison Street and prepare this property to become our church home. There is so much happening, and all of it is incredibly exciting. We’re so grateful for what God has done and genuinely thrilled about what lies ahead.
I want to close with a passage I read at our Madison Street prayer night. These words from Psalm 24 feel especially meaningful today:
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.
May we build a church home with doors wide open to Him.
Shawn

UPDATE [August 5, 2026]: We have more good news this week!
Early indications are that the Torrance Planning Department is in support of granting us a Conditional Use Permit. This group gives its recommendation to the Planning Commission, which makes the final decision. This is great news for us, as things look positive as we head into the Planning Commission meeting on August 19th. All are invited to join us at this meeting with the Planning Commission.
Here are the details:
6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th
LeRoy J. Jackson Council Chamber
3031 Torrance Boulevard
Torrance, CA
Along with joining us at this meeting, you can pray with us. We are dedicating August 10-17 to prayer, both for a positive outcome and also for God’s vision and guidance for the future if this is our new home. See below for details, including a link to some prayer prompts.

UPDATE [July 23, 2026]: We are excited to say that we have a date for our meeting with the Planning Commission for the City of Torrance, and it’s earlier than we anticipated!
Mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 19th at 6:30 pm. The Planning Commission will determine if we can obtain a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to use the property as a church. This is an open meeting that anyone can attend. We will send another email in two weeks with more detailed information about how you can participate.
In the meantime, we have a call to prayer. We want to dedicate the week leading up to the meeting to prayer. Let’s be in prayer together that the city is favorable, and 23840 Madison St. can be our new church home!
UPDATE [May 27, 2026]: We had an exciting business meeting, where the overwhelming majority (96%!), voted to move forward with the purchase of a church building on Madison St. in Torrance! We are excited and ask you to continue to pray for favor in the city as we work toward securing a conditional use permit (CUP), as this is our last hurdle. You can expect more updates early this fall.
If you missed our meetings this past May, we encourage you to watch the recording and read through the informational packet. Click the buttons below to read more about it.
